FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
For the first time since Eric the Red travelled from Norway to Greenland and laid claim to Newfoundland, the cultural divide between Native America and Shetland has finally been bridged. On the third of August 2008 our most northerly Wigwam Holiday site opened its doors on Shetland and welcomed the world to Braewick wigwams on their "splendid" open day. The site owners, Magnus and Christina Nicolson, now have two brand new wigwam® camping cabins at their farm and cafe which are situated in the beautiful North Mainland, Eshaness.
Spurred on by the enthusiasm and hospitality of Mr and Mrs Nicolson, Wigwam Holidays ventured North in a haze of sunshine on a glorious summer’s day to Scotland's land of the midnight sun. Once there, Wigwam Holidays was delighted to attend the Voe agricultural show, where the wigwams® proved of great interest to the locals, visitors and of course the notorious Shetland Vikings! The wigwams®, as always, were first class and even the weather remained fantastic. The scenery, history and sheer warmth of the Shetland welcome were second to none and the facilities on offer at Braewick made this writers (and families) trip to Shetland a Northern pleasure from start to finish.
The Braewick cafe and wigwams® are in the ideal location to enjoy the beauty, culture and taste of Shetland with something to suite everyone. With the famous Shetland sea stacks, The Drongs, providing a dramatic backdrop to the site which overlooks the stunning Braewick Bay, this gem of a site offers stunning scenery you’ll find hard to match elsewhere.
In and around this striking setting are some of Shetland’s highlights which include the Shetland museum, cycle tours to Eshaness light House and Broch and of course, Shetland’s main town, Lerwick. If you happen to be visiting at midsummer and are daring enough to brave a dip in the chilly sea, midsummer's swims take place each year in the Atlantic and North Sea. For the nature lover, Sumbara Head provides the perfect location to spot puffins, possibly the countrys most comical and adorable bird! For those who fancy it, there is midnight golfing not to mention a boat trip to the oldest Broch in the world at Mousa. The fine cuisine at the Braewick cafe is sure to please everyone and the Shetland silver craft at Weasdale is a must where you will receive a warm welcome from proprietor Kenneth Rae and a fascinating tour of the work shops and show room. Believe it or not, one of the very best bits of a very worthwhile visit to Braewick wigwams® is, in actual fact, getting there. Even the non-seasoned travellers amongst us are bound to take pleasure in the Northlink ferry service which runs what can only be described as floating hotels from Aberdeen and Scrabster! For those who are adverse to sea travel, there's always the option of flying and for the keen geographer, travelling via the archipelago of Orkney is a good option. |
